As one of the drummers for The Grateful Dead, Mickey Hart spent 24 years of his life touring with the prolific jam band until lead singer Jerry Garica’s untimely death in 1995. Hart, however, has flourished as a solo artist, percussionist and author of several books. His 1991 release, Planet Drum, received the first ever Grammy Award for Best World Music Album and further cemented his relevance in the music world. As if being a member of The Dead wasn’t enough, Hart has continued to pursue all types of side projects, from Ratdog with fellow Dead member Bob Weir to the current incarnation of The Mickey Hart Band. Comprised of Tim Hockenberry, Crystal Monee Hall, Ben Yonas, Gawian Matthews, Sikiru Adepoju, Ian Herman, Widespread Panic’s Dave Schools and, of course, Hart, the diverse lineup allows for plenty of improvisational jam band perfection. The Mickey Hart Band transcends The Waiting Room stage this Monday (Kyle Eustice).

The Mickey Hart Band, December 12, at The Waiting Room, 6212 Maple St., 9 p.m. Tickets are $30 ADV/$35 DOS. Visit www.onepercentproductions.com for more information.
