June 16 Raashan Ahmad w/ ADF (Mars Black, Jamazz, E.Babbs) and Evil Squad The Hideout 320 S. 72nd St., 8 p.m., $8 Until you’ve seen Raashan Ahmad live, your hip-hop education just isn’t complete. The Crown City Rocker hails out of Oakland, Calif., and epitomizes all the best things about hip-hop culture while maintaining the most positive attitude of any emcee you’ll ever come across. Getting his start with the Crown City Rocker crew in the late ‘90s, the versatile rapper has shared the stage with Blackalicious, Souls of Mischief and Aceyalone. With humility unmatched by his contemporaries and a transparent love for the music he creates, Ahmad balances out his live shows with a DJ set brewing with his deep knowledge of soul, funk and old school classics. It’s fair to say that he is a cut above the rest, although he would never admit that. “I don’t like to say I do things better or differently. That comes out kind of weird,” he says. “I think everybody has their role. I try to give a full spectrum of who I am as a person rather than just the party guy, funny guy or angry guy. I try to put everything I am into my music.”
