Oct. 1-30 RESPECTACLE The New BLK Gallery, 1213 Jones St. Opening reception Oct. 1, 6-10 p.m. FREE, 403.5619, thenewblk.com The New BLK makes a respectable spectacle with this exhibit featuring 11 local artists in photography, mixed media, painting, glass, sculpture and ceramics who haven’t formally exhibited together. From dynamic glass artist Julie Conway, to strangely exotic photographer Bill Sitzmann, to mixed media artists Justin Beller, Iggy Sumnik, Tyler Chickinelli and Josh Powell, as well as Joel “M!ghty” Damon, Phillip Scott Drickey, Mike Loftus, Eric Berner and Megan Body, these established and up-and-coming artists were selected by the creative think-tank New BLK as a “snapshot of the current Omaha art scene.” The commonality, it seems, is the artists’ ability to foster lively conversation and open minds through their innovative work. Three-dimensional glasses are provided for the extra-sensory extravaganza.
