Oct. 8-31 Shelterskelter XV Shelterbelt Theatre, 3225 California St. Thurs.-Sat. 8 p.m., Sun. 6 p.m. Wed. showing Oct. 28, $15 341.2757, shelterbelt.org For 15 years, the Shelterbelt Theater has been doing Halloween right by hosting Shelterskelter, an annual collection of original plays dealing with the horrific, macabre, gruesome, terrifying or monstrous. The stage becomes like the anthology horror tales of old — vignettes filled with the kind of murder stories once filling the pages of “Tales from the Crypt,” or zombie dramas hearkening to midnight movies and locally shown horror movie nights on TV. And of course, it being the season, there will be a ghost or two. Even if not every play gets to you, there are 10 to choose from. It’s a welcome break from whatever Halloween-themed dreck is on TV.
