May 1 The Good Life w/ Honeybee and Hers, Fortnight and Conduits The Slowdown, 729 N. 14th St. 7 p.m., $12, theslowdown.com We all know girls rock — and if you don’t think they’re capable of playing a mean bass, banging hell out of drums or composing intriguing music, please, go back to 1950. Bassist Stefanie Drootin of The Good Life is one woman who is determined to make a difference. Drootin is piloting an all-girls’ rock camp this summer at UNO to “build self-esteem and empower women,” she says. To prepare, she has organized a fundraiser at Slowdown featuring The Good Life, Fortnight, Honeybee & Hers and Conduits. Each band has a member that will be volunteering at the camp; and this will most likely be The Good Life’s only show this year. As we all know, Tim Kasher is busy with Cursive, Drootin relocated to California, drummer Roger Lewis is performing double duty and playing drums in Conduits, and guitarist Ryan Fox is involved with another project of his own, Our Fox. Don’t miss this show! After all, it’s for a good cause.
