Sept. 28 Those Darlins w/ Turbo Fruits and Dim Light Slowdown, 729 N. 14th St. 9 p.m., $8, theslowdown.com It can’t be easy being a garage rock group from the hills of Tennessee. Strum a power chord while wearing cowboy boots and the “bourbon-soaked” and “country-fried” descriptions pile up like cigarette butts in an empty beer bottle. Thankfully, Those Darlins’ don’t seem to care. They’ll sing about fried chicken and prized skillets and people can make whatever Loretta Lynn-meets-Joan Jett comparisons they want. Based on their new single “Nightjogger” the group is edging closer to punk rock than honky tonk, but let’s just call the music what it is — damn fun.
