lululemon athletica, a Canadian based yoga store and studio, opened its first store in the Omaha area last month at Village Point.
“We want our stores to be fun and upbeat with a local flair,” said Nina Gardner, who is with lululemon athletica’s community relations, “Omaha is such a special place, full of people who are so passionate about living, working and sweating in their community and we want the store to be a reflection of this.”
First opened in the Kitsilano neighborhood of Vancouver in 1998, lululemon has always derived much from the stores’ community surroundings. Their stores choose ambassadors that “embody the lululemon lifestyle and are passionate about their local community.” Every store hold events and classes that are specifically tailored to their neighborhood. The Village Point store will feature a complimentary yoga class every Sunday at 11 a.m.
Gardner said that the decision to open in Omaha was easy. “Omaha is a great city and our team loved operating the showroom in Rockbrook, why not open a full store?” She said that the companies original intent was to create innovative and fun events for the Omaha community. Much of lululemon’s goal is to create an experience and place where people can come and learn.
“The team wants their new store to be a resource for the community,” Gardner said. “A place where guests can come to learn about places to sweat in the community, talk about their goals and interact with friends, new and old. Our educators do just that- they educate.”
No membership is necessary. All events and classes taking place at lulu lemon are complimentary. On August 4th from 9 to 10 a.m. they will be kicking of yoga in their new store. Three of their ambassadors will lead the session and center around the theme of “Planting your Passions.” The store is located at 17250 Davenport St. Unit 104 at Village Point.
