Organizers of Omaha’s planned year-round, indoor public market introduced its first executive director Tuesday and unveiled designs for the building, which is expected to open in summer 2028.

Jerrica Marshall was introduced as the nonprofit market’s inaugural executive director at an event overlooking the future site at Eighth and Farnam streets.

According to a news release, Marshall has more than 10 years of experience in community and economic development, public markets and events. She previously led The Directors Council and managed the Downtown Des Moines Farmers Market.

Roger Weitz, chair of the Omaha Market Trust Board of Directors, introduced Marshall.

“Jerrica has expertise in bringing together businesses, nonprofits, civic organizations, and community members to create vibrant public spaces,” Weitz said in the release.

The three-story, 50,000-square-foot market will sit on the hill above Heartland of America Park at The RiverFront. Plans include a market floor with room for dozens of vendors, a teaching kitchen, rentable event spaces and outdoor seating.

Heritage Omaha is leading the project, raising private donations and overseeing construction. Site work is underway.
