Pete Buttigieg, a former U.S. transportation secretary and 2020 Democratic candidate for president, will be in Omaha in mid-July to campaign for Denise Powell.
The Democratic candidate for Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District made the announcement Tuesday morning on her social media. The event featuring the two Democrats is scheduled for Tuesday, July 14, at noon. Doors are scheduled to open at 11:15 a.m.
Event coordinators haven’t disclosed where the event will be held. Powell’s social media post indicates that location information will be announced the day before.
This is the first major campaign event for Powell after she secured the Democratic Party’s nomination in May. She narrowly beat out fellow Democrat John Cavanaugh in a race that saw record-breaking political spending, negative ads between the top Democratic candidates and large donations from dark-money political action groups.
Buttigieg has been making the rounds of political endorsements and visits for various Democratic candidates up for the U.S. House of Representatives. He was recently in Little Rock, Arkansas, to stump for Chris Jones, the Democratic candidate for Arkansas’ 2nd Congressional District. In May, Buttigieg stopped in Montana to support a proposed ballot measure there that aims to put limits on corporate donations to political candidates and other campaigns.
There’s speculation that Buttigieg might make another attempt at running for the White House in the 2028 election, but the Democrat hasn’t divulged whether or not he’ll jump in the race.
