Among lawn chairs and picnic blankets spread across Memorial Park at last Saturday’s City of Omaha Celebrates America summer concert, one seat stood out— a couch.

Our team at The Reader set up our “living room” and invited concert goers to stop by for a free portrait and a copy of our August issue. With the stage and lawn as a backdrop, our set was complete with the couch and a coffee table, rug, nightstand and reading light, all thanks to St. Vincent De Paul Thrift Store.

As the hot sun faded into a golden hour glow, long-time readers and new faces stopped by to say hello and make themselves at home on the couch. We took portraits to the tune of The Firm and Wyclef Jean’s back-to-back sets.

As Omahans soaked up the last bits of summer, seeing your smiling faces on the couch reminded us of how special it is to have the opportunity to safely gather together.

We loved seeing some of you out in Memorial Park, and can’t wait for the next time we get to gather as an Omaha community!
