Benson Grind opens with new work by Will Anderson. The expressionist
painter, a recent graduate of the Kansas City Art Institute, uses value and line
to transpose viewers into his reality. The exhibit runs through July 31.
Downtown, Anderson O’Brien opens “RHYME,” featuring imaginative sculpture
by Nebraska artist Stuart Wheat. The exhibit runs through July 17.
The 2011 Emerging Artist Exhibition opening at the Artists’ Cooperative
Gallery premieres work by Sean Akers (acrylic and wood), Machaela Morrissey
(photography), Reagan Pufall (photography), Julie Schram-Emilo (graphite
pencil), Jon Summers (painting) and Kirk Vaughn-Robinson (bronze).
On July 2, “Black and White and Read All Over” opens at Hot Shops Art
Center. Nancy Lepo (pen and ink), Ron Manabat (fused glass), John Prouty
(steel) and Dorothy Tuma (photography) explore the “defining moments and
complex nuances” of life through their mediums. The show with an “ekphrasis
project” on July 31 coordinated by Heidi Hermanson; it will feature 10 poets
adding verbal expression to the visual show, alongside an interpretive dancer.
