Benson First Friday at the Star Deli, 6114 Military Ave. will be featuring NEW WORK by Sally Deskins, founder, editor and curator of LES FEMMES FOLLES. Deskins will be showing feminist inspired body prints incorporating a combination of quotes, imagery and the female form. The work invites viewers to a reconsideration of gender identity. The collaborative film “Mother-Artist-Model” by Deskins, Fran and Greg Higgins, and Rachel Mindrup will be shown during the opening. Scott Blake’s limited edition zine featuring Deskins will be available for sale. This exhibition is a continuation of Deskin’s first series of body prints, exhibited in 2012 at The New BLK Gallery’s “Les Femmes Folles: VOICE.” A SPECIAL EVENT Drink n Draw, using mothers as live models will be held Wednesday, Feb. 20, 7-9 pm, $5 admission, must be 19 or older. Drink n Draw is an event where visual artists observe professional models as they draw, paint, or sculpt, (no photography). What Will Her Kids think? – NEW WORK opens Friday, Feb. 1, 7-10 pm. The exhibition is free to the public.
