Born in Poland and now considered native to Berlin Germany, Christian Rothmann refers to himself as a happy painter. “Here and There” is an exhibition of boldly colored paintings and watercolors Rothmann produced last summer in Omaha, Nebraska. The title of the show refers to Rothmann’s somewhat nomadic life between his “base-camp” in Berlin, Naxos, Greece, Tokyo, Japan and Omaha, Nebraska. Rothmann’s canvases are filled with blossoms and landscapes of saturated color contrasted aside a panel of singular tone. “Here and There” will be on view at Anderson O’Brien Fine Art through April 28, 2013. “Rothmann’s Roboter” at the Moving Gallery will feature color photographs made of a stash of collectibles put aside by a Berlin gallery owner. These figures embody both the past and the future: made in the 1960s and -70s, they represent a vision of a time to come that looks, from today’s vantage point, as both nostalgic and prescient. “Rothmann’s Roboter” will be on view April 5–May 31, 2013.
