The Sheldon Art Association is happy to be celebrating their 125th anniversary along with the 50th anniversary of Philip Johnson’s elegantly designed building. The party begins at 7 pm with live music, small plates, and celebratory cocktails. There should be plenty of room as the art has been removed, hence the naked museum. The building was stripped bare at the beginning of May, with all contents being placed in storage. This was done to highlight Sheldon’s interior and exterior as an aesthetic object itself. Originally dedicated on May 16, 1963 at a cost of $3 million, the Sheldon will remain open in its bare state through the end of June. Guidebooks with self-paced tours of architectural details are available, created by students in UNL’s College of Architecture. Join the festivities in celebrating this site of beauty and inspiration.
