It’s interesting to hear the change in the sound of the Maha Music Festival once the lineup moves from local and regional acts to national, regularly touring indie acts like Thao & Get Down Stay Down. Once Thao Nguyen and her band took the stage, the professionalism oozed. Songs were arranged intricately on many songs with a cool confidence. The band mostly plays tuneful indie rock/folk, but smartly buttresses many songs with noisy guitar squalls, polyrhythmic keyboard lines and a steady backbeat.
