Adding community-inclusive performance art to its 2020 exhibition roster, the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts is issuing a casting call for its spring performance series, The New Inflation, created by Liv Schulman. The deadline for submission is November 1 and may be sent directly to TheNewInflation@gmail.com.
A Paris-based artist, Schulman is known for her explorations blurring and blending the meaning of language and examining its effects on the body and social fabric. The New Inflation is described as the artist’s depiction of “a disenchanted economy founded on the principles of error and dependency.
This performance straddles different heterotopias such as customs offices at a border crossing, the knowledge constellations produced by informal economies, the successive and ongoing conquests of the Americas, and the emergence of non-logic logic as a currency.”
This will be the first American presentation of Schulman’s work and is part of a series of exhibitions investigating hospitality organized by curator-in-residence Sylvie Fortin.
