Gallery 1516 is inviting visual artist submissions through March 17 for its recurring Nebraska Artist Biennial exhibition, the next edition of which is scheduled to open in May 2021.

Details and submission forms are available at the gallery’s website, https://www.gallery1516.org/2021-biennial, which is fully informative about the process for entering and showing in this competitive exhibition.

Eligibility requirements are broadly defined. As you might expect, artists who are living in Nebraska are eligible for consideration. So too are those who have since moved away, spent a short time here as student or artist-in-resident, or who may be members of Nebraska-based artists groups.

Additionally, this year there is no entry fee thanks to underwriting by the Fred and Eve Simon Charitable Foundation in recognition of the financial stress in the artist community during the pandemic.

Artwork categories include painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture, ceramics/pottery, multimedia and student. A quintet of exhibition jurors will select the works included in the show, as well as issue awards for the top pieces in each of the above categories.

As in past years, there be cash awards for the artworks of note, and for the first time those pieces will then travel to exhibit at the Museum of Nebraska Art in Kearney in September.
