An event celebrating local creators, artists and small businesses will return to Omaha to mark its 10th anniversary this September.
On Sunday, Sept. 6, Midwest Fest will be held at Heartwood Preserve, located at 301 S. 145th Street.
The family-friendly festival, led by the team behind Made in Omaha, typically attracts more than 70 makers from across the Midwest and thousands of shoppers to foster community connections and celebrate the region’s entrepreneurs and creatives.
A press release stated Midwest Fest began in 2016. Initially called Hutchfest, it started as a single-day event dedicated to Omaha’s creative community.
The festival has grown into a nonprofit that fosters community connections and supports local businesses. This year’s anniversary celebration, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., will continue that legacy at its new home and will offer free admission.
“Midwest Fest has grown into a destination where thousands of people gather to shop local, enjoy live entertainment and connect with their community,” Teri Healy, co-owner of Midwest Fest and Made in Omaha, said in the release. “The event is thoughtfully curated around our mission of celebrating craftsmanship and community, bringing together the people, businesses and experiences that make the Midwest one of a kind. Moving to Heartwood Preserve for our anniversary feels like the perfect next chapter. It’s a beautiful space that makes it easy for people from all over the metro to join us.”
Attendees can expect handcrafted goods, apparel, jewelry, home décor, art, specialty food, live music, food trucks, kids’ crafts and a dedicated Next Gen Makers area where young entrepreneurs under 18 will be showcasing their business.
Midwest Fest will also return to Heartwood Park for its Holiday Market during the first three weekends in December. Each Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., guests can enjoy the market, alongside visits from Santa and other fun events including Winterland Skating for its third season.
“Heartwood Park is a natural fit for our festive Holiday Market,” Healy said in the release. “We are excited for guests to experience Winterland, the park’s beloved outdoor and beautifully decorated ice-skating rink that offers free sessions and skate rentals.”
