The second annual Handmade Parade will bring giant puppets, handmade costumes, cardboard creations and people-powered art to the Benson Creative District during Benson First Friday on Oct. 2.
Presented by Giant Joy Collective and BFF Omaha, the parade invites artists, families, schools, community groups and anyone with a creative idea to help transform Benson into a moving work of art. A press release stated participants can carry a puppet, wear a costume, bring a handmade creation or simply join the procession.
Lineup begins at 6 p.m. at Rose Hill Elementary, 5605 Corby St. The parade begins at 6:30 p.m. and will travel along the alleyway south of Maple Street before ending at Petshop Gallery, 2725 N. 62nd St. Following the parade, the celebration continues at Petshop with live music from Wrinkles in Time, Omaha Girls Rock!, TWBIE and MIDUSA.
The evening also includes skateboarding with The Bay, an inclusive art market benefiting Maggie Pop’nz and food from Cheeseburger Paradise and Heavenly Body Bakery.
The Handmade Parade is free, family-friendly and open to all ages. Community members are invited to march or cheer from the sidelines.
