The Omaha Police Department said it is investigating a shooting Wednesday morning at Burke High School.
OPD said in a social media post that the shooting appeared to be an “isolated incident between two people.”
“The victim suffered a non-life-threatening injury, and we believe the other involved party is detained at this time,” the post said.
OPD said in the post that the Burke building is secure and there is no continued active threat. It said it recovered a firearm at the scene.
Omaha Public Schools said in a post on its website that Burke was placed in secure status around 8 a.m. and that status was lifted at 8:20 p.m.
“Student and staff safety is our number one priority. Students and staff are safe. We will continue school as normal,” the post said.
“We are continuing to work with law enforcement regarding the situation outside our school. We will share more details as they become available.”
OPD said there will continue to be a police presence near the northeast corner of the school.
