The emerging blues-duo of guitarist Aaron Moreland and singer/harpist Dustin Arbuckle combine broke-ass Delta blues, rural stomp and garagey blues-rock like they’ve lived in these rootsy styles their whole lives. The Kansas act, which is rounded out by a drummer, tours extensively in the region, but have started to gain a national audience after signing to the Telarc label, which released 2010’s Flood and 2011’s Just a Dream. The easier parallel is to the Black Keys, who started their career nailing down a similar style of roughed-up garage-blues, though Moreland & Arbuckle’s sound is more likely to appeal to the blues bar regular than the early Keys marerial did. It’s also Moreland & Arbuckle’s ability to transcend those blues band trappings that should help continue expanding its audience beyond the blues circuit.
