The city of Omaha and the Greater Omaha Chamber are asking local employers to sign on to a new initiative aimed at attracting and keeping workers in the region.

All In Omaha was announced Thursday at the chamber’s POWER Conference at CHI Health Center Omaha.

According to the initiative’s website, Omaha ranks last on wages among six peer metro areas, and 47% of Omaha-area residents say they have considered leaving. Dallas, Denver and Minneapolis are the destinations named most often.

The website also says Omaha tied with Dallas for the best overall score among those metros, leading on home values, commute times, child care access and K-12 education.

According to a news release, employers in the area are invited to sign a public acknowledgement and put three pillars into practice: jobs, career development and promoting Omaha.

That includes considering Omaha for new and open positions, reviewing pay with recruitment and retention in mind, offering mentorship and training, and making the region’s story part of their recruiting and onboarding.

The chamber and the city will support those efforts with labor market data, talent programs and recruitment materials, with recommended steps tailored to each organization’s size.

Mayor John Ewing said in the news release that the initiative invites employers to help shape a city where people choose to stay.

“Omaha’s future depends on people seeing the opportunity to build a good life here,” Ewing said. “By working with our business community, we can help connect people with careers that allow them to grow and support their families.”

Paul West, chair of the Greater Omaha Chamber board of directors, said the initiative is a call to the entire business community.

“All In Omaha asks every employer to help build the workforce our region needs to grow,” West said. “That commitment is an investment in our people, our businesses, and our shared future.”
