I must be gearing up for a run at local office, because I lied to you. Like a fickle city councilman, I’m about to flip-flop, only instead of vacillating on the corporate infestation of Dundee, I’m just changing dates. I told you last week that Film Streams’ Ruth Sokolof Theater (filmstreams.org) would have a Q&A with the director of the Internet meme documentary Winnebago Man this Friday, but it’s actually this SATURDAY, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m. I apologize for the confusion of my date dyslexia, but I think we really ought to be pointing the finger at the educational system. (https://biergardenencinitas.com/) Before I watched “Friday Night Lights,” I hated everyone evangelizing the program, gettin’ all up in my face about how I had to watch and how great Kyle Chandler is. Now I’m all, “OMG, you have to watch how great Kyle Chandler is!” So it’s with a smile I report that the man who got his break acting opposite George Strait in Pure Country will appear in the next directorial effort of my man crush JJ Abrams. Super 8, the super-secret sci-fi flick produced by Steven Spielberg, just skyrocketed to the top of my anticipation chart. And yes, it’s an actual chart I made with paper maché and glitter. Bryan Fuller, the genius who created the genius “Pushing Daisies” that was killed by decided non-geniuses, will write a live-action Pinocchio, which comes as great news in unemployed talking cricket circles. The inspiration apparently came from Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, so if imitation is intended, Pinocchio will also make me vomit. Still, I have hopes for anything Fuller does, and fingers crossed for Kristen Chenoweth as the blue fairy! Cutting Room provides breaking local and national movie news … complete with added sarcasm.
