Oct. 1 The Hood Internet w/ Moneypenny Waiting Room, 6212 Maple St. 9 p.m., $10 ADV/$12 DOS onepercentproductions.com The massive resurgence of electronic music in the past few years has spawned blog after blog of free mp3s and mix tapes. After Girl Talk’s 2006 Night Ripper, the mash-up phenomenon quickly littered the cyber-world. Sites like missing toof.com or thehoodinternet.com made “crunk” rap and indie-rock closer than Lil’ Wayne and Rikers Island Prison. Chicago-based DJs ABX (Aaron Brink) and STV SLV (Steve Reidell) of The Hood Internet, however, take their blog to the stage. “It’s not terribly hard to translate it to a live show. At first it was since ABX and I really didn’t have any sort of DJ background,” Reidell said. “But once we started to figure things out regarding sound quality and the live mixing, it got a bit easier on both us and the audience.” Mixing everything from CSS and Mims to Caribou and Biz Markie, The Hood Internet knows how to make the dance floor move … now if only Reidell could figure out one thing. “I don’t understand the popularity of the show “Glee,’” he said. Hmm.
