• Am I the only one who assumes that “D-BOX” seats are reserved for faux-hawk wearing loud-talkers who dress in glittery Ed Hardy shirts? Turns out, they’re not. They’re actually “motion technology” movie theater seats that “pitch, roll and heave in perfect sync with the action taking place onscreen.” The pitching and rolling sounds like fun, but heaving in one’s seat seems like a more private affair. At any rate, the Rave Westroads 14 Theatre (ravemotionpictures.com) has installed 46 of these D-BOX seats just in time for the realistic replication of sea sickness you were hoping to simulate during the arrival of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. You have to reserve said seats, so call ahead. And remember, the size of your popcorn purchase is the size of your sick bag.

  • After a few weeks of tinkering and finessing, I’d finally like to confirm in print that I have given birth. That’s right, me and my buddy Matt Lockwood have delivered a bouncing, beautiful baby podcast. Called Movieha, it’s a half-hour audio extravaganza that covers movie news, in-depth reviews, upcoming releases and new trailers and mines the depths of streaming video-on-demand in a game we call “Netflix Roulette.” And we do it all while trying (emphasis on trying) to make you laugh. You can listen to it directly on the Reader’s site (thereader.com/index.php/film/), subscribe to it on iTunes (itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/movieha/id435873611) or subscribe to our RSS feed (movieha.libsyn.com/rss). You can also shoot any comments about Movieha (good, bad or ragingly aroused…those are the only three types of reactions we accept) to movieha@gmail.com or hit us up on twitter at twitter.com/movieha. We aim to please, but sometimes we miss and hit the seat, so please give it a listen and let us know what you think!

Cutting Room provides breaking local and national movie news … complete with added sarcasm. Send any relevant information to {encode=”film@thereader.com” title=”film@thereader.com”}. Check out Ryan on Movieha!, a weekly half-hour movie podcast (movieha.libsyn.com/rss), and also catch him on the radio on CD 105.9 (cd1059.com) on Fridays at around 7:30 a.m. and follow him on Twitter (twitter.com/thereaderfilm).
