June 23-26 Shakespeare on the Green: “A Midsummer Nights Dream” Elmwood Park at University of Nebraska-Omaha, 64th between Dodge and Pacific Streets FREE, Performances start at 8 p.m. Nebraskashakespeare.com, 402.280.2391 Get your picnic and blanket and get ready for a true Nebraska “Shakesperience;” the organization is celebrating its 25th birthday this year starting with “A Midsummer Nights Dream,” the story of four young Athenian lovers and a group of amateur actors who are manipulated by forest fairies, one of Shakespeare’s most popular works, last produced by the Nebraska company in 1998. The birthday celebration also features activities starting at 6p.m. including live music, concessions, souvenirs and pre-show seminars with artists and scholars discussing the text and contemporary topics. Special evenings include the Fourth Annual “Will’s Best Friend Dog Contest” June 26 at 5:30p.m. where sponsor PETCO will give away treats for attendees’ four-legged pals. Shakespeare on the Green continues June 30 with “Hamlet.”
