- You can keep the absanity of Ryan Reynolds or the chiseled chin of Clooney, my man crush is and will remain Ira Glass, the master of ceremonies for NPR’s “This American Life.” Don’t laugh! That splendiferous purveyor of radio nuggets is a national treasure! And he’s coming to our local screens. On Thursday May 10 at 7 pm and Tuesday May 15 at 7:30 pm, Village Pointe Cinema (marcustheatres.com) will screen This American Life Live! You Can’t Do That on the Radio, and it will be glorious. For $20 and $18, respectively, you will be treated to hours of music, dance, comedy and more that follows the thematic trends of the weekly radio program. Now all we need is Terry Gross to do a calendar photo shoot and my life is complete.
- Robocop may technically be cold, dead, reaminated flesh, but some hot living actors are being sought for roles. Edward Norton, Gael Garcia Bernal and beloved grumpus Sean Penn are all being pursued for roles. Of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean anything, as being pursued and being caught are two different things (isn’t that right, Mr. Zimmerman?). Still, the thought of Penn as the right-wing reporter Novack and Norton as the dude who created Robocop is enough to make me think this just may not be terrible.
- Robert Rodriguez is reportedly courting Michelle Williams and Mel Gibson for Machete Kills, the sequel to his gore-tastic grindhouse B-movie. Although the precise roles the two will play remain under wraps, I think I speak for all of humanity when I ask that Gibson play a role that allows the title character to stick his moniker into him. That came out wrong…
