Lights w/ Ambassadors

Valerie Anne Poxleitner inhabits the music of her project Lights with plenty of lightness. Her deft electronic pop floats on whirring, glowing synth lines and pop-minded production tricks. It’s bright, flowing music that reaches not for the clubs, as much as it does for bedroom play by fans of well-made alternative pop. There’s a winning, almost low-key quality that’s similar in spirit to what drove people to Robyn’s recent work. Light’s latest, Siberia, is certainly not an icy affair, opting for a little more openness in the sound, suggesting that Poxleitner’s view is becoming a little more panoramic, as well. It’s a lesson culled from growing up on Depeche Mode and Cure albums. Not a band place to start, at all.
