After several Benson galleries took January off to nurse their New Year’s hangover, its full steam ahead for February. Most Benson mainstays will be back for their first monthly First Friday celebration of the year, many with exhibitions featuring some fresh faces.
The most intriguing of these features the multidisciplinary work of Laura Bacon at Sweatshop Gallery. Bacon is best known in the region for founding Darger HQ, a new non-profit gallery in Lincoln, NE that features artists from across the globe.
Where most artists use their medium to explore content, Bacon rests on the converse using multiple disciplines in order to present her content. What can be expected is a spectrum of media investigating memory and psychology through the lens of external forces squeezed into Sweatshop’s main gallery. Laura Bacon’s Temporal Instability opens February 6.
Other events in Benson that evening are the launch of a new co-lab erotic zine called Cocktale Hour at Petshop, This Little Light Burns at Star Deli featuring mixed-media paintings by Matt Noble and a show of prints by Dillon Wheelock at (402) Arts Collective.
All Benson First Friday exhibitions open at 6 p.m. and close whenever.
