Dr. Mysterian has seen a future where the night sky has two moons, one cold and gray and familiar, one red and hot and new. This new moon will have been an asteroid that passed close enough to earth to become caught in its gravitation, and began to spin closer and closer, a decaying orbit that would eventually end with it entering the earth’s atmosphere, which would have been fatal to all life on earth.

Instead, the asteroid will be detonated. The force of the detonation will put the asteroid on a stable orbit, but will also smash it, and the fragments will be pushed together again by the force of gravity, which will release enough energy to make the new moon a ball of flame. This will be an earth that will not know night anymore, not as we once did, but instead will be bathed in an eerie red glow, the light of our near extinction.
