Pizza for a Playground

Did you know that every Wednesday, Piezon’s Pizza donates a portion of their proceeds to a community cause?
Wednesday, May 22 from 10am until 9pm, Lake Zorinksy’s Inclusive Playground will host a kickoff party.  Sponsored by the Non-Profit organization Imagine Inclusion Inc, the event will take place at Piezon’s Pizza on 156th and Center. There will be more information about Lake Zorinsky’s upcoming Inclusive Playground project, games, prizes, and 10% of proceeds will go directly toward funding the project!
Eating pizza always made you feel good. On May 22, it can help you do good, as well!

The proposed playground will replace one of Zorinsky’s older, smaller playgrounds.  It will feature chair-accessible equipment that’s not only fun for little ones, but helps them develop balance and coordination in a safe environment. Costa LaVista, Baby

Della Costa Closes

Della Costa, known for its expansive menu of coastal Mediterranean fare, has quietly closed up shop. The establishment had difficulty finding a client base appreciative of the sometimes-intimidating menu, and launched a rebrand in 2018. The cavernous spot was split into a dining room and a coffee shop, Café Costa, and the menu was refocused. The problem was never in the execution of the dishes or creative cocktails, which I found to live entirely up to the SamFam established standard of excellence. Somehow, this venture failed to take root.

The Reader will keep you posted on what’s to come for SamFam (Always something with those guys, lemme tell ya) and with the covetous location they once occupied.

Sushi Japan

After the devastating loss of Tamae Mizuno in early March, followed by the loss of another beloved member of their staff, Arturo Ramos on April 1st, the Mizuno family have made the decision to retire, closing Sushi Japan Yakiniku Boy after 18 years in Omaha. The last day for service will be Sunday, April 28th.

Be sure to stop by, share a memory, and say farewell to the establishment that dared to serve Omaha when sushi was still such a foreign concept. Sushi Japan will remain many of our first memories of enjoying Japanese cuisine and taking the plunge into the art of sushi. The Reader wishes the Mizuno family the very best, and thanks them for their tireless contributions to the community.
