1. Go Outside and Take a Walk! There’s plenty of room to keep social distancing while enjoying the Spring weather.
2. Sight See. Take an afternoon drive north to Sioux City along the Missouri River. Take the Loess Hills Scenic Byway on the Iowa side or the Lewis & Clark Scenic Byway in Nebraska. Crank the tunes.
3. Be The Ball, Danny. All of Omaha’s municipal golf courses are open as of print time. Visit the City of Omaha website Parks and Rec page to scout the city’s four public 18-hole courses and four 9-hole courses.
4. Get Physical with Run Hub. Facebook’s Run 402 is the one-stop hub of running event info in the Omaha area, providing all of the group run information including the latest cancellations and now, Virtual Runs, done solo. As normal-sized gatherings resume in the coming months, this is a great resource for informal running groups as well as official races.
5. Dig In. It’s the perfect time to get your garden prepped for a fruitful 2020. You can start to plant durable greenery like onions and radishes in early April, but wait until the weather starts to warm up to plant juicier varieties.
6. Farmer Cait Caughey, expert local farmer, mom and educator is making a series of quick, simple videos to help you learn how to plant food. Look for Mullein Hill Farm’s Youtube channel for her latest.
7. DIY Outdoor Garden Handwashing Station. The UNL Extension Office has some great resources for building an affordable, portable hand washing station handy for community gardens or outdoor activities: Written directions to building a handwashing station. And for you visual learners, here is a Youtube How-To video showing the whole process. Bonus: FAQs, best COVID practices for Commuity Gardens.
