Every week The Reader will pick out noteworthy agenda items from the Douglas County Board of Commissioners and the Omaha City Council. Visit the county and city’s websites to view the full agendas.

  • City Budget Presentation: Mayor Jean Stothert will present the 2022 city budget during Tuesday’s Omaha City Council meeting. A public hearing on the city budget will then be held on Aug. 3.
  • TIF Projects: The council will vote on four proposed projects requesting tax increment financing (TIF): a $167,623 request to turn a single-family home at 406 Woolworth Ave. into a five-unit rowhome, a $1.7 million request to repurpose an office building with “historic character” at 1402 Jones St., a $920,000 request to rehabilitate three buildings and create 18 apartment units at 15th and Farnam streets, and $17.5 million for the controversial Warhorse Casino at 6303 Q St.
  • Executive Deputy Chief of Police: The Omaha Police Department has requested approval to create an executive deputy chief with 6% specialty pay. Chief Todd Schmaderer said during the July 13 public hearing that it would not create a new position, nor would it increase the police budget. The executive deputy would be chosen from the five deputy chiefs and would take over as chief in the event Schamderer is unable to perform his duties.
  • County Board: The Douglas County Board of Commissioners will meet Tuesday to hold a hearing on the 2021/2022 county budget. The board will also receive a monthly report from the department of corrections before touring the corrections facility later Tuesday.
