In conjunction with the 8th annual New American Art Festival presented by Benson First Friday and Lutheran Family Services, the Petshop gallery will feature the vibrant work of Virgilio Rodriguez Reinoso with an exhibition opening August 6 from 7-10pm.
The Dominican-born artist is a recent graduate of Creighton University with a degree in Graphic Design and Computer Science with an additional focus on Digital Humanities, and a recently naturalized citizen, all accomplished in the throes of the pandemic.
Rodriguez describes their digitally rendered artworks as derived from their “dreams of slurry and glitchy gradients while embracing the beauty of the person and expression.” Human figures appear in dazzling colors against rich, dark backgrounds, appearing to float against starry night skies. Their glowing bodies pulsate and fluoresce, as if seen through infrared or thermal imaging sensors—perhaps the artist’s way of translating the energy of the body and spirit into visual form.
Virgilio Rodriguez Reinoso will exhibit at the Petshop in Benson from August 6 to September 24, with an opening on First Friday from 7-10pm. The gallery is located at 2725 N. 62nd Street. To visit after the opening reception, please check the gallery’s Facebook page or email alex@bff.org for more information.
