The annual North Omaha Summer Arts Garden Walk will be held Aug. 15 from 9 a.m. to noon across a mile-and-a-half stretch of North 30th Street. The free family event features a variety of sights, sounds and activities to enjoy nature.
Guests at the event can visit vegetable and flower gardens and hear urban farmers and conservators discuss their passion for growing fresh, sustainable food.
A press release stated there will be educational presentations, information displays, handouts and giveaways. Refreshments will be available at most stops.
NOSA founder and Garden Walk director Pamela Jo Berry is inviting anyone who loves nature to drive or take a stroll down North 30th Street “for a sweet, positive look at what we can do in sustaining our Earth and our food systems whether by growing food ourselves or supporting the local farmers in the community who care.”
“Experience the beauty and peace of flowers and learn the healing power of food and herbs,” she said in the press release. “Let’s get busy taking care of our environment. our Earth, in bite-sized form.Meet the conservators, gardeners and farmers who make it possible, and along the way, enjoy beautiful art and music. Bring your family, your sunscreen, and enjoy a gorgeous day with us on North 30th Street.”

- At 12:30 p.m., see progress on the ongoing creation of a landscape reflecting the Florence Mill’s historical legacy. What landscape did the Mormons arrive to in 1846 on the western banks of the Missouri River? This was the land of the Omaha, Otoe-Missouria and Ponca tribes. The plantings in this 1846 History Garden and Arboretum will reflect this landscape and their medicines.
