A group of Omaha stamp enthusiasts will host its annual show later this month in celebration of the society’s 100th anniversary.
The Omaha Philatelic Society, which celebrates and collects postage stamps, will hold its centennial stamp show on Sept. 19-20 at the Center for Advanced Manufacturing on Metropolitan Community College’s South Omaha campus.
Celebrating 100 years of promoting the hobby of stamp collecting, a press release stated the event will be attended by seasoned philatelists, history buffs, and families interested in stamps.
“Reaching our centennial year is a testament to the enduring fascination of stamp collecting — a hobby that blends history, art, and storytelling,” representatives of the Omaha Philatelic Society said in the press release. “We invite the entire Omaha community and regional collectors to join us in celebrating 100 years of philately.”
At the event, collectors will have the opportunity to buy, sell, and appraise rare stamps, mint sheets, postal history, covers, and collecting supplies with top dealers from across the country. The event will feature special commemorative covers and cachets honoring the society’s 100-year history, local landmarks, and Omaha’s philatelic legacy.
Attendees can explore educational displays detailing historical U.S. stamp issues, postal history, and thematic collections.
The event will also feature a youth and beginner area where they can receive free stamps and learn the basics of stamp collecting.
Founded on April 23, 1926, by a small group of local collectors, the Omaha Philatelic Society is dedicated to encouraging and expanding the study and collection of postage stamps and postal history. The group hosts educational presentations, trading bourses, and public events.
