Minneapolis indie pop act Now, Now first call to mind similarly put-together alternative pop acts like Tegan & Sara, but there’s a coarser, rockier spirit on the band’s 2012 album Threads that morphs the band’s sound towards the sort of smoldering music written by the likes of PJ Harvey or Lisa Germano. There’s a slight confessional feel to the lyrics in the band’s songs that speaks to a slight sense of heartbreak, though a heartbreak tempered by the elasticity of a youthful heart. Now, Now is co-headlining their current tour alongside the Lonely Forest, a Washington-based band that features the soaring vocals of singer John Van Deusen. The band bridges eras of Pacific Northwest indie rock, nicking elements of expansive indie-folk at times and writing direct, hooky indie guitar rock on other songs. Both acts are on Trans Records, the imprint of Death Cab for Cutie’s sonic mastermind Chris Walla.
