As a kid, I lived by the honor code of the five dollar bet. Once the bet was made, all parties were bound to the principles of President Lincoln. These bets usually governed challenges to eat something gross, but they were also used when parties differed over facts or arguments on whether some future event would actually occur. This brings us to Omaha musician Mike Tulis, who is also my Austin carpool companion along with Reader listings editor Paul Clark and Mike’s friend Julie. Mike thinks David Bowie has secret plans for secret things in Texas. I think there’s no way we would not have caught wind of such an event yet. If the Thin White Duke appears, Tulis hits the $5 jackpot. Now I’m off to day parties and a difficult Iggy and the Stooges or Nick Cave decision this evening.
