A week after Omaha’s own Yolonda Ross co-starred in the Lifetime Whitney biopic, fellow Omaha native Gabrielle Union has a producing credit on the new movie With This Ring premiering on that same network. Union, the star of the BET series Being Mary Jane, is reaching the point in her career where she’s taking more creative control. She acquired the rights to the Angela Burt-Murray novel The Vow upon which With This Ring is based. The romantic comedy, executive produced by Tracey Edmonds and Sheila Ducksworth (Soul Food) and written-directed by Nzingha Stewart (The Game), stars divas Jill Scott, Eve and Regina Hall (a close friend of Union’s) as three single women seeking wedded bliss who vow to find their marital mates within a year. Don’t be surprised to see Union donning the producing hat again.
